Hi Celeste, so happy you were able to explore all of these structures while you were here! We cannot wait to see what happens when you bring digital jacquard weaving back to Florida!!!
Weaving on: Collin Joining us from: Tallahassee, Florida Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? Celeste Ivory is a visual artist focusing on unconventional textiles and sculpture. She holds a BA in Anthropology and MFA in Studio Art, both from Florida State University where she works for the FSU Department of Art. Ivory's work investigates contemporary and future craft; as a radical act, as a force working against consumerism, as a tool for material investigation, and as an act of community-building. She is currently developing a textile arts class for the Department and is thrilled to experiment with and explore the potential of a TC2 loom. Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? I have not. Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? To investigate creative possibilities and experience digital weaving technology. Get in touch with Celeste on Instagram @celesteivory or at celesteivory.com

Weaving on: Lou Joining us from: Brooklyn, New York Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? Im an artist/designer based in Brooklyn. I was inspired to do the residency by seeing the great work of past residents like Hope Wang and Jovencio de la Paz. A lot of my work is jacquard based so I was excited to get the opportunity to have access to a jacquard loom again and explore some ideas I’ve been working on. Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? I have extensive experience with designing and executing Jacquards and working on compu-dobbies, but not with a TC2 specifically. Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? Since this will be my first experience with hand woven jacquards, I’m just looking to learn and make the most of loom and my stay in general. I’m excited to explore Cleveland as well and the art scene there. See Stefan on Instagram @f_tefan or at stefansehringer.com Sarah! Your weavings were wonderfully optic and textured, not to mention homey! Cannot wait to see how that felted wefts turn out!!!
Weaving on: Collin Joining us from: Pittsburgh, PA Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? Hello! I am a textile artist and designer. My work goes on many directions such as memory, our natural environments, and materiality/color exploration. I love to experiment these concepts through different processes like weaving, drawing, and pattern. I've heard great things about Praxis and always wanted to weave on the TC2. Really glad that my first art residency is with you all! Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? Yes! I have experience with programming on the Jacquard loom and using an AVL dobby loom. I was fortunate to be surrounded by peers and professors at RISD that taught me all I know :) Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? Trying to push myself to be a little more personal in my work. Thinking about my Korean and Moroccan identity and the role textiles has played in my life/family lineage. Also learning everything about the TC2! you can find me on insta: skhadrao and my website: https://skhadrao.cargo.site/ Hey Anne - we hope you made it back across the country safely! It was a delight to see the variety of work & pieces you made on a single warp + all of your naturally dyed yarns really lit up the studio!!
Weaving on: Lou Joining us from: Portland, Oregon Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? My art career spans multiple mediums including photography, writing and installation. I often work collaboratively in settings of service, mutual aid, environment, and education. My work is thematically centered on ecological networks, shared landscape and the universality of textiles in our daily lives. Whether growing a community garden, fostering neighborhood networks, or upcycling textile remnants to create objects of comfort, service through art-making is a core principle in my practice. Praxis' open access to the TC2 loom and Cathryn Amidei's Digital Weaving classes. Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? In 2018 I was introduced to the TC2 Digital Jacquard loom at the Icelandic Textile Center, and in 2022 I returned to return to weave 10 yards of textile. I also briefly wove on the TC2 loom at Portland State University in 2023. Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? I want to continue to test out ideas, techniques, and materials. I've brought along Icelandic Lopi, naturally dyed fibers, and some files for weaving an edition of scroll books, repeat patterns, along with other images. Since being here, I have begun to really be able to apply the photoshop methods I was introduced to in Cathryn's classes, and understand the weave structures and how they work with the images.
