Hey Anne - we hope you made it back across the country safely! It was a delight to see the variety of work & pieces you made on a single warp + all of your naturally dyed yarns really lit up the studio!!
Weaving on: Lou Joining us from: Portland, Oregon Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? My art career spans multiple mediums including photography, writing and installation. I often work collaboratively in settings of service, mutual aid, environment, and education. My work is thematically centered on ecological networks, shared landscape and the universality of textiles in our daily lives. Whether growing a community garden, fostering neighborhood networks, or upcycling textile remnants to create objects of comfort, service through art-making is a core principle in my practice. Praxis' open access to the TC2 loom and Cathryn Amidei's Digital Weaving classes. Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? In 2018 I was introduced to the TC2 Digital Jacquard loom at the Icelandic Textile Center, and in 2022 I returned to return to weave 10 yards of textile. I also briefly wove on the TC2 loom at Portland State University in 2023. Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? I want to continue to test out ideas, techniques, and materials. I've brought along Icelandic Lopi, naturally dyed fibers, and some files for weaving an edition of scroll books, repeat patterns, along with other images. Since being here, I have begun to really be able to apply the photoshop methods I was introduced to in Cathryn's classes, and understand the weave structures and how they work with the images.
