Hello Kiara! Welcome to the DWL--we are so glad you were able to join us for indigo dyeing while you were here!
Weaving on: Collin Joining us from: Maryland Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? I am a Salvadoran-American artist from Maryland. I am interested in archival practices and the sentiment behind them. My process consists of using materials such as clay, glass, and natural fiber combined with labor-intensive techniques to reproduce objects of contemplation. Through material manipulation and abstraction, I create an ephemeral archive of sensibility and memory. An active reflection of a sense of loss and urgency to establish an archive. I am grateful to have the opportunity to begin a new body of work at Praxis Fiber Workshop after a short hiatus from making. Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? Yes, my previous experience with TC2 was while pursuing my BFA at SAIC. Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? I recently traveled back to El Salvador after 10 years and took a bunch of film photographs during my stay. My plan is to hone in on my feelings of nostalgia of a place that feels so familiar yet estranged at the same time. As well as use the cotton yarn I brought back from my trip.
