On Loom: 1

Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?

I am a visual artist who uses the tactile and ‘chance’ qualities of different mediums to explore perception, and the complexities in the simple act of looking. Since moving from the intense, desert light of Los Angeles to the misty and seasonal light-allotments of northern Washington, I’ve been collecting video and photographs of light, shadow, water, and how they shape our sense of space. This residency gives me the opportunity to explore these subtle images with the TC2 loom’s intricate interlacements.

Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?

I’m diving in! While I’ve been weaving on floor looms for a few years now, Praxis will be my first, hands-on experience with digital weaving. I took online workshops with Jovencio de la Paz and Cathryn Amidei to prepare.

Any goals for the residency you'd like to share?

I hope to find opportunities to spontaneously respond to fiber, structures and the unexpected while learning the nuances of the TC2 loom. And then to use these new moves to explore textural ways to convey light, shadow and water.
