Internship Opportunities

Praxis offers year-long internships for emerging and established artists who wish to advance their professional experience in fiber arts. We deeply value the contribution our interns make to the Praxis community and in exchange, offer unlimited access to our facility and resources.

What does an intern do?

Our interns are core members of the Praxis community and are deeply valued. Studio Interns work to care for our ever-evolving Main Studio Facility...you never know what you'll get into here! This is including but not limited to studio upgrades, equipment and donation intake, indigo care, gallery installations, and dust management, to name a few. The Intern will also develop mentoring and teaching skills by assisting students and members in their projects. Familiarity with at least one fiber process (sewing, weaving, spinning, knit/crochet, dyeing) and related equipment (looms, spinning wheels, dye lab and lab safety, accessories, etc) is preferred but not strictly necessary.

Who is an intern?

This internship is dedicated to emerging and established artists who wish to further their relationship to fiber art. Although it only averages to be (4) hours of work a week, it is a year-long commitment. We welcome both novice and experienced artists. Students enrolled full-time in an academic program are not eligible; we highly encourage you to apply after graduation.

Applications for the next cohort (beginning June 1st, 2026) are due May 1st, 2026.

Internships require a minimum commitment of 4 hours per week, from June 1, 2026 – May 30, 2027, arranged according to each person’s schedule. Interns are expected to be motivated and adaptable to the dynamic conditions of a small nonprofit organization.

Interns receive 24/7 keyed access to Praxis, including dedicated time on a loom and open use of accessories and studio materials including yarn, scrap fabric, and dyes. Interns can enroll in classes and workshops in order to expand their practice and knowledge. Interns also benefit from being part of a supportive intergenerational community of local makers.

Application materials for the internship must be compiled into a single PDF document.
The document should be labeled with the applicant’s first & last name and the position they are applying for (ie. Doe_Joan_STUDIOINTERNSHIP.pdf).

Applications must include:

  • A statement of purpose in which the applicant states the reasons for applying to the internship, what they seek to learn from the experience, and what skills and ideas they can share with Praxis (250 word max).

  • Resume / CV

  • Studio Internship: 5 images of works that demonstrate knowledge of fiber art processes.
