Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
I’m a fiber artist who enjoys working with a variety of textile processes including handweaving. I’ve worked with many different types of hand looms from the most basic type of frame loom to various types of floor looms as well as digital Jacquard looms.
I enjoy the possibilities that are opened up in the weaving process by the TC-2 loom both in the complexity of the design and ease of use.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
Yes, I learned how to design for and use the earlier version of the TC-2, the TC-1 nearly twenty years ago. Over the years I’ve taken classes and workshops using both TC- and TC-2 looms and also made various arrangements to weave on digital looms when the opportunity presented itself so naturally I was compelled to apply for the residency at Praxis.
Any goals for the residency you'd like to share?
Most of my work is inspired by the beautiful world we live in. I’ve found that no matter where you are there is always something beautiful to notice.
In some cases I’ve taken elements of my inspiration such as colors and patterns to express that joy to create works of fiber art. But using the digital Jacquard loom and designing in Photoshop allows me to work directly from my photos or drawings.
I designed my weaving file for the loom using a photo as a starting point to translate my inspiration into woven works of art.
