Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
I am interdisciplinary artist and educator based in North Texas. I am an associate professor at Texas Woman's University where I teach graphic design, digital fabrication, and fiber courses. We have a TC2 loom at TWU and I've spent the last ten years slowly learning to weave, maintain, and design files for it. With my background in graphic platforms and digital fabrication, learning to weave on the TC2 has been an exciting combination of digital and hand-made skills.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
I am fortunate to have access to a TC2 at TWU and to have worked with Cathryn before at a digital weaving workshop in North Carolina. It has been a slow and steady progression towards greater independence and confidence with the TC2. I am proud of my perseverence and progress with weaving. This residency has given me important dedicated time to focus on improving at file creation, loom maintenance and troubleshooting, and multi-shuttle weaving! It has been such a pleasure to spend time at Praxis, getting to witness such a vibrant fibers community and amazing arts organization!
Any goals for the residency that you would like to share?
I hope to get better at preparing files for weaving with three shuttles. I want to feel more comfortable identifying and solving technical issues with the loom to better maintain our TC2.
