Joining us From: Wooster, Ohio
On Loom: 2
Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
A window opened up and I jumped! I respect individual string colors, textures, and origin stories (plant, animal, or human-made fiber). As a painter and weaver, I love selecting threads to blend into unfamiliar combinations, as well as spotlight pure, solo moments. The TC2 digital loom allows me to play/experiment at a rapid pace, versus the luxurious slowness of other looms. Praxis has a world of looms, exhibitions, concerts, and community that is a joy to join, especially during this intensive residency. Every break is refreshing before diving back into weaving. Wind, throw, cut, repeat.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
Yes, I am grateful to have learned how to weave combinations of structures and designs on digital looms in Ohio.
Any goals for the residency that you would like to share?
Experiment with a variety of multi-weft cloth constructions.
Translate drawings from chalk, charcoal, ink, and watercolor into string line-work and color layering.
Use the black warp as a graphic tool to contrast weft choices.
Visit M. Carmen Lane's lecture and exhibition.
Pause in the quietude of the new store to admire undyed, handspun, and handwoven items and read about local fiber initiatives.
Attend the weekly Craft Circle to meet fiber friends.
