Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
Growing up in my mother's fashion boutique, I developed a deep connection to textiles that evolved into an exploration of African adornment, identity, and cultural memory. My fiber practice reimagines ancestral techniques through weaving, beading, and embroidery to reclaim overlooked histories. At the residency, I hope to begin weaving a new body of work on the TC2 loom: a queer love archive based on photographs submitted through an open call, celebrating the lives and love of queer Kenyans in Kenya and across the diaspora.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
I used a tc2 loom and dobby loom approximately four years ago while i was in Grad school.
Any goals for the residency that you would like to share?
I hope to create 10 images of varying sizes and colors that are submissions from an open call I did on instagram, the images are a queer love archive I am embarking on to celebrate and highlight the queer lives of kenyans in kenya and the diaspora in different textile mediums, what a great way to start the series on a tc2 loom.
