Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
I've been using the TC2 to translate research on evolutionary patterns of adaptation and the movement of traits through generations. My work relies on relationships with farmers in my region and abroad, exploring the wool from different breeds to understand the specific qualities and histories. These weavings incorporate handspun yarns that are often bulky and create texture, and they are meant to be viewed from both sides. The front pulls through certain genetic traits while the reverse holds lines of yarn, remnants containing unchosen paths.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
I worked on the TC2 as a grad student at Parsons School of Design.
Any goals for the residency that you would like to share?
My designs for this residency will explore 6 weft structures, work to create multiple visual dimensions, and play with edges.
