On Loom: 1
Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
I utilize tapestry as an experimental drawing medium. On my floor loom, this means creating pattern sets than can be mixed as I weave, and the TC2 allows me to break out of the physical constraints within the loom's set up. Instead, I can pull patterns from anywhere, mix size and scale, historic and self-drafted patterns. I've been thinking a lot in the past year about how artists engage with archives as living documents, and the ways these can be incorporated in the digital age, specifically with new technologies like the TC2, and I'm excited to incorporate this research into my residency.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
This will be my third DWL Residency and my second time on the 44" TC2. I also weave at LMRM in Chicago.
Any goals for the residency that you would like to share?
My biggest goals are to test my Echo Draft adaptations for the TC2, and to begin my new project where I collect sound waves from bodies of water and transform those into network lines for drafting with Echo. I've got a bunch of ideas about how to go about this, however this will be the first real proof I'm on the right track!
