Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
I am a visual artist and art educator, working across installations, performance, text, and textiles. Central to my practice is the art of weaving, which merges traditional craft with digital technology on hand-operated and automated Jacquard looms. I translate layered digital motifs into tactile patterns, exploring perception, intuition, and embodied knowledge. At the DWL Residency, I plan to develop parts of a textile-based installation exploring blurred and fragmented vision as a counter-perspective to extractive, disembodied modes of perception and knowledge.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
I have been working with Jacquard weaving for four years, using TC1, TC2, and fully automated looms. I am grateful for the opportunity to work at the Praxis Fiber Workshop for a concentrated, extended period at a TC2 loom, where I can deepen my practice and take the time to experiment.
Any goals for the residency that you would like to share?
My goal for the residency is to slow down and fully engage with the process— to weave and unweave, observe, adjust, and reweave. I aim to focus on experimentation rather than finished pieces, treating the work as an evolving process rather than something set in stone. I also plan to explore dyeing some of the weavings after the residency, keeping the work open-ended and allowing it to continue developing beyond my time at the lab.
