Tell us about yourself and what led to the Residency?
I've been weaving since childhood, but didn't have my first experience of digital weaving until 2021 at Praxis. As a textile artist working in Silicon Valley, I'm deeply interested in the dialogue between technological advances and ancient craft. The TC2 loom offers such immediately accessible design and experimentation in that realm. Two weeks of dedicated residency in the Digital Weaving Lab is a special opportunity to really sink in and refine my vision and work.
Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard?
I'm SO grateful to be back at Praxis for a third time! Besides my experiences at Praxis DWL, I'm also currently a Visiting Artist at Stanford Art Institute, working on the University's TC2 loom. It's been fun to dig further into my own practice while simultaneously facilitating digital weaving access for science and engineering graduate students.
Any goals for the residency you'd like to share?
I'm excited to further explore the tactile relationship between fiber and the body. For my residency, I'll be working with figurative imagery, largely of hands and bodies with impressions clothing. I'm looking forward to pushing my color palette and composition development and completing my full 15 yard warp!
