November – December 2017 Lindsay Cashews, a 2013 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, currently lives and works in Detroit as a performance artist and designer whose work is often displayed on the body. Her runway shows (often under the pseudo name Skandoughless) combine considerations of classicism, collapsed hierarchy, pop culture, parody and gender performance, with consideration to sound and atmosphere. Her work is driven by fiber, using beads, woven textiles, silk prints, and chain mail. For the opening night performance at Praxis, the work is an investigation into class and gender politics and how they influence and negotiate an outward appearance both in terms of selfconstructed facade and attempt of elevation/ devaluation of status. She enjoys viewing the runway as a means of performance and spectacle, as well as wearable pieces of art that can be taken to street fashion.
