Thank you both for bringing a very cool project to Praxis! It is great to see the ways in which the TC2 could support your research. Long live the overshot samples!!!!!!!!!!
Weaving on: Collin Joining us from: Knoxville, Tennessee Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? Felicia Francine Dean is designer, artist, and educator at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in the School of Interior Architecture. Benjamin Sechrest is a time-based media artist specializing in sound and data visualization. Their series of textile weavings link historical studies to technological modes of representation to make visible the hidden stories of Black weavers in the Middle and East TN region. The project merges historical narratives with digital futures by translating their investigation through the process of digital weaving. Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? The Praxis workshop gave us experience with digital weaving prior to the residency. Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? The goal for the residency is to experiment with the current ideas and be open to new directions of how the process will inform the work, to realize the ideas in tangible forms for exhibition.
