Eel, it was nice to have you at Praxis. Your excitement and positivity was a great addition to our community. Your woven tintypes turned out amazing!!
Weaving on: Collin Tell us about yourself and what led you to the residency? I knew weaving would forever be a part of my practice when after only the first day of using the TC2, it was making its way into my dreams. I am an interdisciplinary sculptural artist working through metaphor for, and in relation to the body. Focusing on the softness found within tension, I celebrate connection through a combination of care and play. I have my BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and my MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and have been wanting to partake in Praxis! Have you had any previous experience with Digital Weaving or Jacquard? I did! I fell in love with the TC2 in grad school at Cranbrook Academy of Art!!! Any goals for the residency you'd like to share? As part of an ongoing series, I have been traveling to all of the places that I've lived, setting up dark rooms in the closets or hallways of my queer friends' houses and documenting them in their outdoor spaces. An image showing up slowly on a wet plate, further distorted through weaving, built thread by thread but at the same time translating the most possible information thanks to the TC2. Instead of an image existing on the surface these images would be made whole, made sculptural. Connect with Eel via instagram @eelcostello
