Quilting in the Age of the Pandemic
Afgan Log Cabin Quilt
Made by the MICA Raffle Quilt Group in 2022 to benefit Afghan refugees supported by Global Cleveland - a non-profit organization dedicated to growing Northeast Ohio’s economy by welcoming and connecting international people to opportunities and fostering a more inviting community for those seeking a place to call home. Quilt stitchers worked with colors of the Afghan flag - red, green, and black - in this traditional log cabin quilt format. The quilt measures 68 x 68 inches. Enter raffle here |
Opening reception: March 3rd, 2023 | 6–8pm
March 3 – May 12, 2023 A selection of quilts created remotely but collectively by members of the MICA Quilt Group. The group, founded by artist Susie Brandt, has raffled off numerous quilts to benefit various causes, organizations and scholarships. In 2020, the pandemic forced participants to scatter - so they resumed weekly over Zoom, via a website and the USPS. Word spread and seventy-six people from throughout the US joined in. These quilts reflect an ongoing exchange of ideas around race, gender, age, sustainability, hope, gratitude, thrift, color, pattern, craft histories, grief, and joy.
